How to remove WGA notification
Monday, July 31, 2006

Okay okay, some of my students are asking me how to remove the annoying WGA notification blah blah blah!!!, I can't promise that you won't run into trouble. The one thing I can tell you is that I've done this with some of my friends PC without incident, wahahaha!

Removing WGA: Step by Step

1. In the Add or Remove Programs Control Panel, turn on the "Show Updates" check box at the top.

2. Open the Folder Options Control Panel. Click the View tab. Remove the check, if any, beside "Hide extensions for known file types." While you're at it, click the radio button beside "Show hidden files and folders" and uncheck the box beside "Hide protected operating system files." Click OK. (Note: If children or computer novices use your computer, you'll want to reverse these steps later.)

3. Start by searching your entire system boot drive for any file containing the letters "wga".

4. If WGA is installed on your computer, the search should return the filenames WgaLogon.dll and WgaTray.exe in your \Windows\System32 folder. You'll also find WGA's LegitCheckControl.dll in the same folder (but it won't be in your search results). You may well have several other search results, and we'll come back to those later.

5. In the search results window, rename the following two files as shown:
WgaLogon.dll => WgaLogon.old
WgaTray.exe => WgaTray.old

5. Restart your computer.

6. Open the Start menu, choose Run, type "cmd" without the quotation marks and press Enter. This runs the Windows command-line console.

7. In the black command-line box, type the following line of text, then press Enter:
Regsvr32 %Windir%\system32\LegitCheckControl.dll /u

8. Restart your computer.

9. Use Windows Explorer (any folder window) to navigate to the \Windows\System32 folder and delete these files:
LegitCheckControl.dll
WgaLogon.old
WgaTray.old

10. Open the Start menu, choose Run, type "regedit" without the quotation marks and press Enter. This opens the Registry Editor.

11. Locate and delete the last subkeys (folders) in these locations in the Registry. (Note: HKLM stands for HKEY_Local_Machine.)

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Notify\WgaLogon
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\WgaNotify

Note: Just to be clear, for that first line, you would navigate through the Registry beginning with HKEY_Local_Machine area, tunneling in by opening each folder named in the Registry path until you can see the WgaLogon folder on the left side of the Registry Editor. Then just delete that folder. Repeat for the other Registry subkey, WgaNotify.

12. That ends Microsoft's initial instructions. On my computers, I reboot my computer at this point. When it comes back up, I search the entire Registry for WGA and remove all subkeys that are clearly related to WGA. They frequently appear in pairs with the subkeys of WGA and WgaNotify side by side. Here are the locations I usually find:
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\WGA
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Updates\WGA
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Updates\WgaNotify
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Management\ARPCache\WGA
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Management\ARPCache\WgaNotify

13. The next step is to delete other WGA files returned in your search. Note: It's not absolutely essential for you to remove every last trace of WGA, especially when this can get you into trouble. For example, wgaapi.dll isn't part of Microsoft WGA, it's part of a wireless networking driver. Only delete things you know are part of WGA. Any file you find with "wganotify" in it is part of WGA and may be deleted.

Prevent Reccurrences

Okay now you have successfully removed your annoying WGA notification, Microsoft will try to reinstall that annoying utility again, yes! again!, @%%@!

So long as Microsoft continues to make WGA optional, the following steps should help you avoid the reinstallation of the anti-piracy measure.

  1. Change the Automatic Updates Control Panel setting to "Notify me but don't automatically download or install them." From now on, you will need to closely monitor every update that Microsoft wants to install on your computer.
  2. Wait for the yellow shield icon to appear in your system tray that signifies that updates are available. This can take as much as two days, but it's usually only a couple of hours.
  3. Click the yellow icon and if prompted, choose the "Custom Install" option, which will bring up the "Choose updates to download" dialog.
  4. Remove the check mark beside any entry that contains the words "Windows Genuine Advantage" and click Cancel.
  5. Yet another box will open called Hide Update. Remove the check mark beside "Don't notify me about these updates again."
Now your PC is protected with WGA notification utility!!!! ^_^
Wait FYI I'm PRO Microsoft! As what kuya jepoy said a while ago with his blog, but most of my students ask me how to remove this utility so I've post this topic....

Mosquito Ringtone
Sunday, July 30, 2006

Mosquito Ringtone is now the "in thing" in North America, teens uses this ringtone to avoid being caught by teachers, A mosquito ringtone is a ringtone having a very high frequency. It is called mosquito ringtone because this ringtone sounds similar to the sound of a mosquito. The mosquito ringtone is generally audible to teens only and most adults can't hear it.

Now my question is, "is it safe to use it on our mobile phones?"

If you want to try it out yourself, just leave your comments.

US government agrees to hand over control of Net
Friday, July 28, 2006

The US government has announced it will hand over its control of the technical co-ordination and management of the Internet's domain name system (DNS).

The announcement came last night at a meeting of Internet governance experts in Washington, and sees the US government return to its original stance over the Net, undoing some of the confusion caused by the announcement of a series of "principles" released by the Bush administration last year.

However there remains some debate over how and when the US government should relinquish control of the private, non-profit overseeing organisation ICANN that is in effective charge of the DNS. Those in favour of completing a transition which began in 1998, said the political price of having the US involved in DNS management has become too high and holds back the international development of the Internet.

Despite the US government decision to bow to international pressure, Kneuer (acting administrator of the Commerce Department's National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA)) said it still intended to retain control of the root zone file - the directory file at the top of the Internet. That stance too is likely to be challenged by other countries around the world.

The new Barracuda ES, a push-button backup hard drive, offers 750GB of storage for $599(almost PHP30k). @%@$%$@! I'm just planning to buy a new HD, damn! hahaha!!!!

Dolce&Gabbana luxury Razr

Talk about exclusivity...
Move over Nokia 8800...

Motorola and designer Dolce&Gabbana have released a new Razr V3i in gold and silver. The phone comes with a complimentary gold D&G pendant.

In addition to typical V3i features like Bluetooth, a digital camera and iTunes software, the new D&G V3i comes loaded with special backgrounds, screensavers, MP3 ring tones and animations.

Now the question is, "how much is it?" :)

BTW, no classes again for all levels in Metro Manila. (~_~)

Monday, July 24, 2006

On July 24, 2006, AMD and ATI announced a plan to join forces, in a transaction that will combine AMD’s technology leadership in microprocessors with ATI’s strengths in graphics, chipsets and consumer electronics. The result is a processing powerhouse: a new competitor, better equipped to drive growth, innovation and choice for its customers in commercial and mobile computing segments and in rapidly-growing consumer electronics segments. The transaction, valued at US $5.4 billion, is expected to close in Q4 2006 subject to approval by ATI shareholders, court approval, regulatory approvals and other customary closing conditions.

White lies blah blah blah.....
Sunday, July 16, 2006

white lie - An often trivial, diplomatic or well-intentioned untruth; An untruth told to spare feelings or from politeness, as in She asked if I liked the food, and of course I told a white lie. This term uses white in the sense of "harmless."

(TT_TT)

Reasons Why Windows Vista Will Be My Next OS
Thursday, July 06, 2006

1. It's all about security baby!
- It has IE7, if you want secure browsing, you will want this one.....
- Built in Antiphishing technology in both IE and Windows Mail (Outlook Express)
- Has Windows Defender built-in
- User Account Control -- safeguards against scripted or hacked attempts to manipulate your system controls to make your computer more vulnerable to attack

2. Power & Performance
- According to Microsoft, its new Sleep mode combines the fast resume rate of Windows XP's Standby mode with the data protection and low-power consumption of XP's Hibernate mode. When it enters Sleep mode, Windows Vista stores the contents of system memory to the hard disk, just as Hibernate did. It also maintains the memory state for a period of time and then automatically progresses to hibernate when the battery charge or settings dictate. Microsoft's name for the transition to hibernation is Hybrid Sleep. By leaving the system memory up at least for the short run, Sleep facilitates a much faster resume behavior.

- Even without all the Sleep stuff, a straight shutdown takes only about five to 10 seconds. That's true of systems that have lots of apps installed on them and also of ones that don't. Microsoft is delivering faster shutdown with Windows Vista. Will everyone's PC shut down that fast? No. Will older Vista installations maintain that level of performance? I doubt it. But it's markedly faster than any previous version of Windows, and a welcome improvement.

3. New SuperFetch
- SuperFetch feature is a memory-management technology that keeps close track of applications you use the most frequently and preloads them into memory, speeding the start-up time for those applications. Talk about privacy! ahahaha!!!

4. ReadyBoost
- Use your portable usb drives as source of your swap file, adding more capability to your PC eh!

5. EyeCandy
- For the first time ever, Windows interface will use the power/capabilities of your videocard.

- Intense speed. Graphical rendering seems effortless, and that has a huge impact on perceived usability. Where Windows labored to bit-blit (combine two bitmap) images before, it now draws in fast motion. The result is crisp curves and fine lines that rapidly appear across your screen. The difference is palpable.

- Blue screen of death (BSOD) will be reduced by a huge factor, since something like 80% of such events were caused by video drivers in earlier versions of Windows.

6. A blizzard of new applets, utilities and Control Panels
Vista includes Windows Media Player 11, Windows Movie Maker with new effects and HD support, Windows Calendar, DVD Maker, Contacts, Fax and Scan, Disk Defragmenter with scheduled defragging, Windows Easy Transfer, Memory Diagnostics Tool, mildly improved Task Scheduler, and many other smaller tools.

7. Heavily expanded Group Policy settings

Say no to USB memory sticks allowed, for example, while allowing USB ports to be used for other things. There are also numerous new settings and limits for power management, printers, browsing and many other areas.

wala lang, nag iisip isip lang
Sunday, July 02, 2006

I've been talkin with Siopao regarding trust, how he trust me and everything, I asked for an advice what to do because there's a problem buggin me for the past few days about trust and faith..... *sigh*
Trust-

1 Firm reliance on the integrity, ability, or character of a person or thing.
2 Custody; care.
3 Something committed into the care of another; charge.
4
4.1. The condition and resulting obligation of having confidence placed in one: violated a public trust.
4.2. One in which confidence is placed.
5 Reliance on something in the future; hope.
6 Reliance on the intention and ability of a purchaser to pay in the future; credit.

Trusted-
1. To have or place reliance; depend: Trust in the Lord. Trust to destiny.
2. To be confident; hope.
3. To sell on credit.

Truster-
These nouns denote a feeling of certainty that a person or thing will not fail. Trust implies depth and assurance of feeling that is often based on inconclusive evidence: The mayor vowed to justify the trust the electorate had placed in him. Faith connotes unquestioning, often emotionally charged belief: “Often enough our faith beforehand in an uncertified result is the only thing that makes the result come true” (William James). Confidence, frequently implies stronger grounds for assurance: “Confidence is a plant of slow growth in an aged bosom: youth is the season of credulity” (William Pitt). Reliance connotes a confident and trustful commitment to another

Faith-
1 Confident belief in the truth, value, or trustworthiness of a person, idea, or thing.
2 Belief that does not rest on logical proof or material evidence. See Synonyms at belief. See Synonyms at trust.
3 Loyalty to a person or thing; allegiance: keeping faith with one's supporters.

Faith is in general the persuasion of the mind that a certain statement is true
(Phil. 1:27; 2 Thess. 2:13). Its primary idea is trust. A thing is true, and
therefore worthy of trust. It admits of many degrees up to full assurance of
faith, in accordance with the evidence on which it rests. Faith is the result
of teaching (Rom. 10:14-17). Knowledge is an essential element in all faith,
and is sometimes spoken of as an equivalent to faith (John 10:38; 1 John 2:3).

The question is how can I regain trust to the person I love? *sigh*
